I took all of my night shots at the campground outside the Mammoth Hot Springs. The stars were breathtaking this particular night and I knew I wanted to capture it as best as I could. Another classmate and myself went to and empty portion of the campground to escape any residual firelight. In order to focus my lens I illuminated the license plate on a vehicle and focused on it from approximately 25 feet away. Using firewood to provide stability to my camera I pointed it either directly up to the sky or at the horizon. I was able to prevent any movement during the long shutter, by using a two second delay after pressing the button.

The bear-box reflections image was a pleasant surprise that occurred when attempting to take a picture of the horizon. I had placed my camera on the bear-box with a piece of wood propping it up. In resulting image I could see a little bit of reflection from the moisture on the top of the bear-box. I then proceeded to take several different pictures, trying to capture the reflection in the best possible way. I then adjusted the exposure and highlights to make the skyline more effective to the picture as a whole. While the final product was a little grainy on closer inspection, it was still one of my favorite night shots.

The tree star image was another one of my personal favorites. Even though the milky way is off to the side of the image, I love how bold and dramatic the center tree is. I also enjoyed the pop of green that the leaves provided to the overall look of the image.
